The topic of the 19th issue of the komma is »scepticism«. For the first time, a thematic part was added to the usual concept of presenting student projects, seminars and events. In this part guest authors such as Max Dudler, Alexander Lis and many others answered the question: »Do we need design?« The result is an interdisciplinary discourse about positions and definitions of design. The thematic part is framed by the student works and other topics related to the department of design. While the students’ work is presented on shiny white paper with a lot of air to breathe, the guest author’s texts are squeezed side by side on rough pink paper. The contrasting materials underline the structure of the contents.

The komma magazine is the platform for student work of the Faculty of Design at the University of Applied Sciences Mannheim. It is published biannually and includes term-papers, course specials as well as Bachelor- and Master Theses and, depending on the issue and theme, guest artworks and interviews of various designers.
